Sentencing Delayed for Coutts Blockade Ringleaders

Three men convicted of leading the 2022 COVID-19 protest blockade in Alberta face postponed sentencing due to a change in legal representation.

Alex Van Herk, Marco Van Huigenbos, and Gerhard (George) Janzen were found guilty of mischief over $5,000 in April 2024.
The blockade at Coutts, Alberta, disrupted cross-border traffic between Canada and the U.S. for two weeks in early 2022.
The sentencing hearing was initially scheduled for September 27, 2024.
Van Huigenbos needs to retain new legal counsel after his previous lawyer withdrew.
A new sentencing date has been set for October 17, 2024.
