Sensex, Nifty Extend Slide to Seventh Day in Volatile Trade

Foreign fund outflows keep sentiment fragile ahead of the RBI rate decision.

Overview

  • The Sensex closed at 80,364.94 and the Nifty at 24,634.90, both down 0.08% after swinging between gains and losses.
  • The losing streak reached seven sessions, leaving the Nifty more than 3% lower over the stretch on persistent overseas selling.
  • Exchange data showed FIIs sold Rs 5,687.58 crore on Friday while DIIs bought Rs 5,843.21 crore.
  • Banks and autos weighed on the benchmarks, with Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank and Maruti lower, though the Bank Nifty inched up 0.13% to 54,461.
  • Selective strength helped limit losses as Titan, Trent, Tata Steel, Eternal and Bharat Electronics advanced and transport and non‑ferrous metals led sectoral gains.
