Overview
- Arunodoy Dohutia, also known as Arunodoi Axom or Bijit Gogoi, laid down arms at Pangsau Pass with his personal security officer, Francis Asom, and another cadre, handing over “war-like stores.”
- Security forces took them into custody on the border and are bringing them to Assam, with plans to question them on ULFA(I)’s strength, hideouts and funding networks.
- Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ruled out any plan to take the detainees to Delhi, countering reports that they could be moved for further investigation.
- Officials describe Dohutia as a close aide of ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah who held senior roles, including communications and operational responsibilities.
- The surrender follows intensified pressure in Arunachal and Assam, including recent Assam Rifles–Arunachal Police operations that netted a cadre and recovered arms after attacks in eastern Assam.
