Senior Iranian Cleric Assassinated In Attack, Stunning Nation

A senior Shiite cleric in Iran, Ayatollah Abbas Ali Soleimani, was shot and killed in an attack in Babolsar, Mazandaran province.
The killing was captured on surveillance footage and stunned both witnesses and the wider public.
Soleimani served on the country's Assembly of Experts and was a personal representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Authorities have not provided a motive for the attack, and the Interior Ministry has launched a special investigation.
The killing comes amid months of unrest in Iran, including protests over economic, political, and civil rights issues, and discontent with the role of Shiite clergy in the country.
