Senegalese Protesters Clash with Police over Trial and Third Term for President

Police fired tear gas and demonstrators burned cars near the home of Senegal's main opposition leader Ousmane Sonko who is on trial for rape and libel.
Sonko claims the charges are politically motivated attempts to derail his candidacy and his supporters protest his "illegal" detention.
The protests come as President Macky Sall has refused to rule out running for a third term, which opponents argue would be unconstitutional.
Sonko has a large youth following and his supporters built barricades, torched cars and a government building in protests over the weekend.
A guilty verdict in Sonko's trial could eliminate him from running in elections next February, further inflaming political tensions.
