Cole Caufield and Michael Pezzetta scored for Montreal, which dropped to 19-19-7 after a 3-2 victory over New Jersey.
Ottawa Senators goalie Joonas Korpisalo stopped 21 shots, while Montreal's Cayden Primeau made 32 saves.
The Senators have now won seven consecutive games against the Canadiens.
