Senate Shuts 1994 Building Trust, Sends First 800 Million Pesos to Federal Treasury

Leaders cast the move as an austerity step returning surplus funds to the federal treasury.

Overview

  • The Senate formally extinguished Fideicomiso 1705, created in 1994 for land, construction, equipment and ICT for its Reforma–Insurgentes headquarters.
  • An initial transfer of 800 million pesos was completed to the Tesorería de la Federación after the trust’s closure.
  • Total resources tallied 1,074,300,693.01 pesos, with about 274.3 million pesos retained to address liabilities from the extinction such as labor or commercial claims.
  • Officials initially targeted January 2026 for the remaining delivery but now say the Senate has up to a year to remit the balance once obligations are settled.
  • The termination was coordinated with Banobras as fiduciary, and a legal-accounting convenio with TESOFE is being prepared to formalize the transfers, as the Senate opted to return funds rather than absorb them into its budget.
