Overview
- The CAE established the group under an instruction by chair Renan Calheiros to oversee inquiries into alleged irregularities tied to Banco Master.
- The group is coordinated by Calheiros and includes senators Fernando Farias, Eduardo Braga, Esperidião Amin, Randolfe Rodrigues, Alessandro Vieira, Leila Barros and Damares Alves.
- It can summon authorities with ministerial status, request formal information and propose legislation, and it may conduct institutional visits to the Federal Police, STF, TCU, Central Bank, PGR and CVM.
- It does not have coercive powers such as breaking bank, tax or telephone secrecy, distinguishing it from a full Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry.
- The action follows the PF’s second phase of Operation Compliance Zero and the Central Bank’s liquidation of Reag, and it comes as STF Minister Dias Toffoli directed that newly seized materials remain under custody of the Attorney General’s Office.
