The senators expressed concern over the use of 155-millimeter artillery shells in densely populated civilian areas, which have previously caused a significant number of civilian deaths.
The letter from the senators comes ahead of a Senate vote on a $110 billion emergency foreign aid package, which includes $14 billion in aid to Israel.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, a signatory of the letter, has stated he will oppose more military aid to Israel without conditions to limit civilian casualties.
The senators also expressed concerns about the lack of transparency around weapons transfers to Israel and the potential for U.S. assistance to contribute to disproportionate civilian harm.
