Overview
- On July 28, Sens. Dick Durbin and Sheldon Whitehouse sent a formal letter to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche demanding all recordings, transcripts and notes from Ghislaine Maxwell’s July 24–25 interviews.
- The senators insisted the Justice Department commit to offering Maxwell no pardon or sentence commutation in exchange for her cooperation.
- Maxwell, serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking in connection with Jeffrey Epstein’s network, spoke under a limited-immunity agreement.
- Durbin and Whitehouse criticized the choice of Blanche—formerly President Trump’s personal defense lawyer—to conduct the interviews and warned the sessions could undermine survivors’ trust.
- The letter also requests the names and titles of everyone present, the full terms of Maxwell’s immunity deal and any SharePoint files tracking references to President Trump.
