Overview

  • Senate Appropriations Committee voted Thursday to remove Sen. Chris Van Hollen’s amendment that barred relocation funding to any site other than Greenbelt, Maryland.
  • Sen. Lisa Murkowski reversed her July 10 vote supporting the Greenbelt restriction after speaking with FBI Director Kash Patel, citing concerns over derailing the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.
  • Restored language returns the original $555 million allocation and paves the way for the FBI to relocate to the Ronald Reagan Building in downtown Washington, D.C.
  • Van Hollen’s amendment had previously stalled that appropriations act when Republicans switched votes to block its advancement.
  • With the restriction lifted, the committee plans to resume markup of the fiscal 2026 spending measure and advance it to the full Senate.
