Senate, Chamber and Supreme Court Chiefs Align Justice Agenda as Antifacção Bill Reaches Upper House

Overview

• Senate President Davi Alcolumbre hosted STF President Edson Fachin and Chamber President Hugo Motta at the Senate’s Official Residence to discuss judiciary-focused legislation.
• Fachin presented advances of the Programa Pena Justa, a Judiciary–Executive initiative developed by the Justice Ministry at the Supreme Court’s request.
• The plan targets prison management with measures on vacancy control, regime progression, release procedures, social reintegration, and prevention of human-rights violations.
• The meeting followed the Chamber’s approval of the antifacção bill, which has now been sent to the Senate for review.
• The government said it will work to reinstate the Justice Ministry’s original antifacção draft, and any substantive Senate changes would send the bill back to the Chamber.
