Senate Approves Extensions for Three States of Emergency

The vote preserves military and police powers in provinces hit by violence or earthquakes, granting up to 60 days of continued exceptional measures.

Overview

  • The Senate Pleno met on Wednesday and voted to approve the Executive’s requests to extend three decretos supremos that set states of emergency.
  • Decreto Supremo 113-2026-PCM extends the emergency in Pataz (La Libertad) and was approved by 50 votes in favor, zero against, and two abstentions.
  • Decreto Supremo 114-2026-PCM covers Putumayo and Mariscal Ramón Castilla plus the Torres Causana and Napo districts in Maynas (Loreto) and was approved to continue exceptional measures.
  • Decreto Supremo 115-2026-PCM extends the emergency in districts of Huancavelica and Tayacaja and the provinces of Chupaca, Concepción and Huancayo (Junín), and was approved unanimously with 52 votes.
  • Under Article 137 of the Constitution the Senate’s approval was required before the previous decrees expired on October 2 and October 12, and the extensions allow continued military-led order control, curfew-type restrictions, and focused disaster-response operations while authorities implement security and reconstruction steps.
