Prosecutors Allege Menendez Accepted Bribes to Secure Multimillion-Dollar Deal for New Jersey Developer

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez is facing a revised indictment, alleging he used his international influence to help New Jersey real estate developer Fred Daibes secure a multimillion-dollar deal with a Qatari investment fund.
Prosecutors claim Menendez and his wife accepted bribes of gold bars and cash from Daibes for several corrupt acts, including helping secure the Qatari investment.
The indictment alleges that Menendez introduced Daibes to a member of Qatar’s royal family, met with Qatari officials, and made public statements supportive of Qatar while the real estate deal was being negotiated.
The Qatari investor eventually invested tens of millions of dollars in Daibes’ development project, with the deal finalized in 2023.
Menendez, who has previously faced charges for wielding his political influence to advance Egypt’s interests, has denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
