Overview

  • Sempra Infrastructure and JERA have finalized a binding 20-year agreement for 1.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG from Port Arthur Phase 2 on a free-on-board basis.
  • Port Arthur Phase 2 has secured all key permits and plans to include two liquefaction trains capable of producing about 13 million tonnes per annum of LNG.
  • The agreement sets the stage for a final investment decision this year to push Phase 2 into construction and extend U.S. export capacity.
  • The United States led global LNG exports in 2024 with shipments of 11.9 billion cubic feet per day after new export permits were approved.
  • JERA’s pivot towards U.S. LNG reflects efforts to diversify supply sources and address tightening availability of Australian east-coast gas.
