Sempio Rejects Allegations as Brescia Prosecutors Prepare Cassation Appeal in Garlasco Probe

The sole suspect in the renewed inquiry characterizes the seized documents as routine family notes about legal costs.

Overview

  • Brescia prosecutors are preparing to file appeals to the Supreme Court after the Riesame court annulled several device-seizure decrees in the Garlasco and “system Pavia” investigations.
  • Following those rulings, electronic devices taken from former Pavia deputy prosecutor Mario Venditti could be returned while the appeals proceed.
  • Andrea Sempio remains the only person under investigation for alleged complicity in the 2007 killing of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco.
  • In a Rai1 interview, Sempio said a ledger listing about €50,000 in payments to lawyers and consultants, found in the latest search, simply tracks family legal expenses and he described the “pizzino” as a note about a €20–30 fee to collect archiving papers.
  • He said repeated scrutiny has left him without a normal life, denied receiving questions in advance for interrogations, and maintained his innocence while pointing to prior rulings that, in his view, identify Alberto Stasi.
