SEMAR Keeps Plan Marina Active in Four Northwest States

The deployments aim to protect coastal communities through rapid rescue, flood containment and maritime safety measures.

Overview

  • SEMAR said the Plan Marina remains active as of Monday with phased operations across Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California and Baja California Sur to prevent and respond to intense rains.
  • The navy reported on Sunday that it pre-positioned large assets in Sonora’s Segunda Región Naval at Guaymas, including 2,029 personnel, 46 vehicles, two ships, three small craft, two drones, a mobile kitchen and nine heavy machinery units.
  • Preventive port closures in parts of Sonora, Baja California and Baja California Sur remain in effect while the navy conducts continuous meteorological and maritime surveillance and posts updates on its meteorology portal.
  • Local naval brigades have carried out neighborhood patrols, household risk censuses and sandbagging efforts, and a 100-person brigade in Santa Rosalía stands ready with vehicles, a water‑treatment plant and heavy equipment.
  • Plan Marina is the navy’s established coastal emergency framework and its graded phases—prevention, preparation and recovery—reflect seasonal storm risk and aim to reduce harm to people, property and maritime traffic.
