Selectors Propose Scrapping BCCI’s A+ Contracts, Kohli and Rohit Likely to Drop to Grade B

Apex Council review is pending before any changes take effect.

Overview

  • The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has recommended abolishing the A+ grade, shifting India’s central contracts to three tiers: A, B and C.
  • If approved, the Rs 7 crore bracket would be removed and one-format veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are likely to be placed in Grade B.
  • Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are expected to land in Grade A based on multi-format availability, with final payouts to be set after board approval.
  • The current 2024–25 list has Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah and Jadeja in A+ at Rs 7 crore, with Grades A, B and C worth Rs 5 crore, Rs 3 crore and Rs 1 crore.
  • Some reports also flag potential reshuffles such as a promotion for Shubman Gill and uncertainty over Mohammed Shami’s contract, but final placements await the Apex Council’s decision.
