Security Guard Arrested After Allegedly Running Over Child at Northgate Mall

  • On June 11 at about 4:30 p.m., 66-year-old Melvin Anthony Kennedy chased juveniles who had torn down caution tape in Northgate Mall’s parking garage before striking a child on a bicycle.
  • San Rafael Fire Department paramedics treated the injured youngster at the scene and transported the child to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Kennedy worked for a private security firm contracted by the mall and briefly fled the parking structure before returning to surrender to officers.
  • He has been booked into Marin County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon/vehicle and felony child abuse.
