Security Forces Seize 51 Firearms From Abandoned Car in Tijuana

Prosecutors are reviewing the cache under an interagency effort to block firearms entering Mexico.

  • Officers found a gray Volkswagen Jetta in Colonia García with a handgun on the front passenger seat and suitcases in the trunk containing guns.
  • Authorities counted 30 short guns and 21 long guns, and one report also listed 26 magazines among the seized items.
  • The operation involved Mexico’s Defense and Navy ministries, the National Guard, the federal prosecutor’s office and the public security ministry in coordination with state forces.
  • The vehicle and weapons were placed at the disposal of the Ministerio Público for investigation, and no arrests were reported.
