Overview

  • Joint intelligence-based raids conducted from midnight July 3 to early July 4 in Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel and Churachandpur uncovered 203 weapons, 30 IEDs and other war-like stores.
  • In parallel valley-area searches, security forces recovered 11 firearms in Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts and arrested one person in Imphal East for illegal handgun possession.
  • The arms haul comprised INSAS, AK-series and self-loading rifles, sniper rifles, carbines, grenade launchers, mortars and improvised weapons, accompanied by ammunition and grenades.
  • Operating under President’s Rule, Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Indian Army and CAPFs maintain area domination and have appealed to residents to report or surrender looted arms.
  • These July raids build on earlier disarmament drives that saw 307 weapons seized in February and 328 in mid-June as part of efforts to restore normalcy after the ethnic clashes.
