Overview
- Security forces, which launched the operation on Tuesday, have cordoned Dhara Sangla, Gujjar Naar and Kherowali Dhok to look for two reported groups of suspected militants.
- Personnel of the Jammu & Kashmir Police Special Operations Group and troops of the Rashtriya Rifles are leading a coordinated cordon-and-search operation with systematic grid searches.
- Officials say there has been no contact or exchange of fire so far and the operation is continuing as teams work through remote, densely forested terrain.
- Separately, labourers uncovered an old rusted mortar shell in the courtyard of Subash Chander’s home in Kattal-Brahmana village near Hiranagar and the Bomb Disposal Squad safely removed it.
- Unexploded ordnance is regularly found in frontier districts because past artillery and ceasefire violations left buried shells, and residents and workers in border areas remain at risk while searches and removals continue.
