Overview

  • Joint cordon-and-search and naka operations in south Kashmir produced three linked actions that resulted in eight arrests and multiple weapons recoveries, according to security statements on Tuesday.
  • In Pulwama’s Yarwan forest, officers detained Latif Ahmad Deedad and Aejaz Ahmad Bajad and recovered one pistol, 12 rounds and one hand grenade, with FIR No. 118/2026 registered at Rajpora.
  • Shopian operations led to six arrests and the seizure of two hand grenades, one hand grenade with AK‑47 magazines, 20 rounds, mobile phones and posters bearing Hizbul markings, and separate FIRs were filed at local stations.
  • The operations were carried out by J&K Police units including the SOG together with Army Rashtriya Rifles battalions and CRPF units on specific intelligence, and investigators are tracing arms suppliers and potential militant linkages.
  • Overground workers are local support elements that help militants with logistics and messaging, and officials say disrupting these networks and the large Sopore cache under search could reduce the near-term risk of attacks and lead to further follow-up operations.
