Section 60 Stop-and-Search Order Enforced Across East Manchester After Teen Stabbed

Officers are using Section 60 stop-and-search powers to deter further violence.

Overview

  • Greater Manchester Police authorised the 24-hour order at 11:30pm on October 10 following reports of a group attacking others with knives and machetes in Ryder Brow.
  • The enhanced powers cover key routes including Hyde Road, Mount Road, Belle Vue, Ryder Brow, Reddish Lane to Longford Road West, Gorton Road and Barlow Road.
  • A 17-year-old boy found with injuries consistent with a stabbing was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remains in custody for questioning.
  • Extra officers are patrolling on foot and in vehicles, with a cordon in place around Wayland Road as inquiries continue.
