Second Suspect Faces Felony Charges in Officer Rivera’s Death

Authorities are probing whether policy failures allowed two armed suspects to enter the Chatham apartment where Officer Rivera’s partner accidentally fired the fatal shot.

Overview

  • Jaylin Arnold, 27, was arrested June 19 on a parole warrant in Grand Crossing after police found suspected crack cocaine and was charged June 21 with armed violence, drug possession and illegal firearm possession as a repeat felony offender.
  • Adrian Rucker, 25, faces armed violence and illegal gun possession counts after officers say he pointed an AR-style rifle at them during the same June 5 foot chase.
  • Officer Krystal Rivera, a four-year Chicago Police Department veteran, was accidentally shot and killed when her partner discharged his weapon while chasing suspects into an apartment on the 8200 block of South Drexel Avenue.
  • Investigators recovered multiple firearms, ammunition and bags of heroin, cocaine and marijuana inside the apartment where the incident occurred.
  • Rivera’s visitation is set for June 24 at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home and her funeral will take place June 25 at Living Word Christian Center.
