Second Suspect Arrested in Hamilton Bus Stop Shooting That Killed International Student

Obiesea Okafor faces three attempted murder charges following last week’s first-degree murder charge against Jerdaine Foster for the stray bullet killing of 21-year-old Harsimrat Randhawa.

Harsimrat Randhawa, a 21-year-old international student, was studying at Mohawk College when she was shot in April while waiting at a bus stop. Hamilton police said Thursday they have charged a man they arrested in Niagara Falls, Ont., and he faces first-degree murder and other charges.

Police in Hamilton say Randhawa, a 21-year-old college student from India, was an innocent bystander in an alleged homicide that saw her shot while standing at a city bus stop. Overview

  • Jerdaine Foster was arrested on August 5 in Niagara Falls and charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder after ballistics linked his firearm to the fatal April stray bullet.
  • Obiesea Okafor was taken into custody on August 7 in North York and charged with three counts of attempted murder in connection with the multi-vehicle shootout.
  • Hamilton Police say at least seven people in four cars exchanged gunfire near Upper James Street and South Bend Road on April 17, striking Mohawk College student Harsimrat Randhawa.
  • Investigators have appealed for public dashcam and security footage as they continue efforts to identify and arrest remaining participants.
  • Randhawa’s death and a July bus-stop shooting that claimed another innocent bystander have intensified calls for stronger measures to curb urban gun violence in Hamilton.
