Second Night of Violence at Dublin Asylum Hotel as Gardaí Confront Crowds

A man in his 20s has been charged over an alleged assault on a 10-year-old in care, prompting a major public-order operation.

Overview

  • Hundreds gathered again outside the Citywest Hotel, with stones, fireworks and debris thrown at officers as public order units with shields, mounted teams and air support pushed crowds back.
  • A Garda van was torched on Tuesday, lasers targeted a helicopter, and attempts were made to breach lines using horse-drawn carts, with further vandalism reported near the Saggart Luas stop.
  • Police say six arrests were made over Tuesday’s disorder, five men have since been charged with public order offences, and a woman was released without charge as investigations continue.
  • Gardaí have appointed a senior investigating officer, are appealing for witnesses, and maintain a full security operation at the site led from Clondalkin Garda Station.
  • Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan condemned the violence and warned against weaponising the case, as a 26-year-old appeared at Blanchardstown District Court charged in connection with the alleged assault; police have not confirmed the accused’s nationality.
