Second Hitman in Ripudaman Singh Malik Murder Sentenced to Life in Prison

Jose Lopez, convicted of the 2022 contract killing, will serve at least 20 years before parole eligibility, with the identity of those who ordered the hit still unknown.

Ripudaman Singh Malik, acquitted in the 1985 Air India bombing trial, was killed in a targeted shooting in Surrey, British Columbia, in July 2022.
Jose Lopez, one of two men convicted in the murder, was sentenced to life in prison without parole eligibility for 20 years, the same sentence given to co-conspirator Tanner Fox in January.
The court heard that the killing was a calculated, financially motivated execution, but neither Lopez nor Fox has disclosed who hired them for the hit.
Malik's family, including his daughter-in-law Sundeep Kaur Dhaliwal, has called for the gunmen to reveal who ordered the assassination, citing ongoing fear and uncertainty.
The murder has raised broader concerns about violence and foreign interference within Canada's Sikh diaspora, with no resolution as to the motivations or entities behind the crime.
