Overview

  • About 300 Chinese engineers have been recalled from Foxconn’s Yuzhan Technology plant in Tamil Nadu, according to multiple reports.
  • This is the second extraction in a few months, following earlier recalls from Foxconn’s iPhone facilities in India.
  • Foxconn is flying in Taiwanese engineers to fill the gap left by departing Chinese staff, people familiar with the situation said.
  • The Yuzhan site makes enclosures and display modules for older iPhones, and it is not working on the iPhone 17 line as Apple still imports most displays.
  • Officials in Beijing earlier urged regulators to curb technology transfers and equipment exports to India and Southeast Asia, heightening operational frictions for Apple’s shift.
