Second Fatal Motorcycle Crash in North Suburban Illinois Under Technical Investigation

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team continues to collect evidence on high-speed curve navigation in the July 12 collision.

Overview

  • On July 12 at around 6:20 a.m., a 27-year-old Grayslake man on a 2007 Harley Davidson lost control on a curve of Route 45 north of Dada Drive in unincorporated Gurnee and collided with a 2005 Nissan Rogue.
  • The rider was thrown from his motorcycle, suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital after deputies applied a tourniquet at the scene.
  • The Nissan Rogue driver escaped uninjured and is cooperating with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office investigation.
  • Both the Gurnee site and the earlier June 27 crash location on Route 394 in Glenwood have reopened but remain under active probe by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team and Illinois State Police.
  • Investigators are examining contributing factors such as speed, wet pavement and curve negotiation to determine the root causes of the consecutive fatal motorcycle collisions.
