Second Accuser Comes Forward Against ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan

The UN watchdog is assessing testimony from both women ahead of external and member‑state review.

Overview

  • The new complainant, identified as Patricia, says she was an unpaid intern in 2009 and alleges repeated unwanted touching and pressure to have sex after being directed to work at Karim Khan’s home.
  • Her account has been added to an inquiry that began after a 2023–24 staff lawyer alleged coercive sexual behavior, including an incident she says occurred during an ICC trip to Chad.
  • Investigators from the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services have taken testimony from both accusers and are reviewing evidence for referral to a panel of judicial experts.
  • Khan has temporarily stepped aside from leading the ICC’s prosecution office and, through his lawyers, categorically denies wrongdoing, saying he has provided evidence that contradicts the claims.
  • If the probe finds serious misconduct, the case could move to the ICC’s Assembly of States Parties, which may consider an unprecedented vote by 125 member states on his removal.
