Seceda Cable Car to Require Timed Online Tickets From Summer 2026

The shift aims to curb peak-hour overcrowding by allocating most seats through prebooked time windows.

Overview

  • Two thirds of capacity will be sold online in fixed time slots, with one third kept for spontaneous visitors, especially locals and Sommercard or Gardena Card holders.
  • Operator reports show sustained peak congestion with 3,000 to 4,000 people on busy days and rush periods around 9:30–11:30 and after 13:30.
  • Seceda AG plans to boost transport throughput to 2,400 people per hour on the lower section and from 800 to 2,400 per hour from the mid-station.
  • A new parking area about one kilometer from the valley station is proposed for roughly 500 cars and 25 buses, with electric shuttles ferrying day visitors to the lift.
  • Provincial approval for the ticketing and infrastructure changes is still pending after an August stakeholder meeting convened by South Tyrol authorities.
