Seceda Cable Car to Require Time-Slot Reservations From Summer 2026

Officials aim to curb peak crowding at the Dolomites hotspot by pairing advance booking with lift and shuttle upgrades.

Overview

  • Two thirds of seats will be bookable in fixed online time windows, with one third kept for spontaneous visitors, locals, and holders of Sommercard or Gardena Card.
  • The change targets heavy congestion that has seen up to about 4,000 people gather at the valley station on peak days, especially around mid-morning and early afternoon.
  • Seceda AG plans to double lower-section capacity from 1,200 to 2,400 people per hour and raise throughput from the middle station from 800 to 2,400 people per hour.
  • A satellite parking area about one kilometer from the valley station is planned with 500 car and 25 bus spaces, linked by electric shuttle to ease traffic in Ortisei.
  • The package is being advanced by a regional working group and still requires provincial approval, and operators expect a transition period before the system runs smoothly.
