SEBI Proposes Rs 10 Lakh Threshold to Ease Duplicate Securities Claims

Draft rules await feedback before any change takes effect.

Overview

  • SEBI has proposed doubling the cap for simplified documentation from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for issuing duplicate certificates.
  • For claims up to Rs 10 lakh, investors would submit a single affidavit-cum-indemnity on appropriate non-judicial stamp paper.
  • FIRs and newspaper advertisements would not be required for such lower-value reissues, while higher-value claims would retain stricter checks.
  • The plan introduces standardised forms across listed companies and registrars and transfer agents to remove inconsistent documentation.
  • All duplicate certificates issued going forward would be in dematerialised form to support the move away from physical paper.
