SeaWorld San Diego to Open Reimagined Bayside Aquarium on August 8

The new display combines six jewel-like habitats with a Wildlife Confiscation Network pilot program to support trafficked aquatic wildlife.

  • The Bayside Aquarium replaces the Marine Aquarium, closed in 2019, offering six connected tanks beneath the Bayside Amphitheater
  • Unique jewel-like enclosures, including a central glass hexagon, allow guests to view animals just inches away
  • Featured species include critically endangered axolotls, camouflaged wobbegong sharks, California two-spot octopuses and coral cat sharks
  • SeaWorld is partnering with the AZA’s Wildlife Trafficking Alliance to host the Wildlife Confiscation Network, caring for seized clams, corals and other rescued aquatic wildlife
  • The exhibit highlights threats from habitat loss, climate change and illegal wildlife trade and seeks to inspire guests to protect aquatic biodiversity
