Seattle City Council to Vote on Open Seat Finalists
Business-backed Tanya Woo and labor-supported Vivian Song among top contenders for the position.
- The Seattle City Council is set to vote on Tuesday to fill the open seat left by Teresa Mosqueda's move to the Metropolitan King County Council, with eight finalists in consideration.
- Finalists include Vivian Song, a Seattle School Board member; Tanya Woo, a Chinatown International District activist; and Mari Sugiyama, who works in the city's Human Services Department, among others.
- Business representatives have been lobbying for the appointment of Woo, who was endorsed by Council President Sara Nelson but lost in the most recent election.
- Song has become labor's alternative, winning backing from Seattle Building Trades and MLK Labor.
- The appointed council member will serve until at least November, when there will be a special election.
