Seattle Children’s to Cut 154 Jobs in November, Eliminate 350 Vacant Roles

The pediatric system cites looming cuts to government funding as the reason.

Overview

  • A state WARN notice says the layoffs begin Nov. 15, affecting employees across sites in Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, Federal Way and Kennewick, as well as remote staff.
  • Seattle Children’s says the reductions respond to anticipated state and federal funding decreases it estimates in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
  • In addition to the 154 layoffs, the hospital will remove 350 open positions from its staffing plan.
  • The hospital reports 133 of the affected roles are administrative, 15 involve regular patient contact without providing care and six are care providers, totaling about 1.5% of its workforce.
  • Local rapid response teams and WorkSource centers are expected to contact impacted workers, while the Employment Security Department reported no further public details.
