Searches Continue After Capsize and Separate Disappearances on the Paraná River

Heavy rains have raised the Paraná and produced strong currents that are slowing rescue teams and raising flood risks.

Overview

  • A small fishing boat capsized near San Lorenzo/Fray Luis Beltrán on Thursday night, leaving three men—Ezequiel Estegelman, Héctor Flores and Gustavo Muñoz—missing while a fourth occupant, Rogelio Cabrera, swam to shore and later received medical attention.
  • Prefectura Naval, volunteer firefighters, specialized dive teams and local police are conducting expanded surface, underwater and aerial searches that have been extended downstream toward the Rosario–Victoria bridge.
  • In a separate case, two rural workers surnamed Ledesma and Salazar were reported missing after last being seen moving livestock near Isla Ibirapitá in Corrientes and search teams found a drowned horse near the site.
  • The Fiscalía Federal Descentralizada de San Lorenzo, led by Agustín Mori, has ordered continued search operations and an investigation into the cause of the San Lorenzo capsize.
  • Defensa Civil reported 472 people displaced in Corrientes and authorities have issued navigation warnings and closed some river crossings as high water and fast currents complicate rescues and local life.
