Overview

  • On July 18, a grenade believed inert detonated at the Biscailuz Regional Training Center, killing Detectives Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Victor Lemus and William Osborn.
  • The ATF’s National Response Team now leads efforts to locate the second grenade, which remains unaccounted for after arriving at Biscailuz alongside the device that exploded.
  • Investigators have scoured the training center and a 400-foot perimeter with X-ray scans, drones, robots and K9 teams without recovering the missing grenade.
  • Sheriff Robert Luna has suspended the LASD bomb squad’s service calls and is relying on LAPD bomb teams while implementing new policies to treat all devices as live.
  • Search warrants executed in Santa Monica and Marina del Rey are ongoing as authorities trace the grenades’ origin and seek related evidence.
