Search Teams Recover Second Body at Oregon’s Dillon Falls, One Person Still Missing

Rescue crews have spent three days using drones, K-9 teams, boats, divers to scour the popular Deschutes River rapids for the last missing person.

Overview

  • On July 19 at about 2:57 p.m., six tourists were swept over the 15-foot Dillon Falls drop on the Deschutes River west of Bend.
  • Three people were rescued and treated at St. Charles-Bend hospital, one victim was declared dead at the scene and divers recovered a second body Monday morning.
  • The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office led a multi-agency operation with Bend Fire & Rescue, Bend Police drones, AirLink, K-9 teams and marine patrol boats.
  • Officials now presume the sole remaining person missing is deceased given the swift, cold rapids and submerged hazards.
  • Authorities are withholding names to allow for proper family notification and continue warning visitors about the dangers of the Class IV–V rapids.
