Overview
- The vessel carrying David and Mary Maynard and their sons, Colton and Brantley, capsized in August 2024 about 16 miles west of Homer, Alaska.
- Private companies Support Vessels of Alaska, Vision Subsea and Benthic Geoscience used sonar and remotely operated vehicles to locate the 28-foot aluminum boat in 180 feet of water in early May.
- State divers recovered three sets of human remains from the sunken vessel during dives on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- The recovered remains have been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies and positive identification.
- Four other passengers were rescued at the time of the capsizing by a nearby vessel alerted by the U.S. Coast Guard.
