Overview

• Jomarie Calasanz’s body was located in the Middle Fork of the Kaweah River on July 24, less than a mile downstream from where she vanished on May 25
• The Tulare County Coroner’s Office confirmed her identity on July 28 after remains were recovered by dive and swiftwater teams
• Initial searches by the National Park Service and Tulare County Sheriff’s Office were scaled back in early June due to dangerous high flows from melting snow and steep terrain
• Volunteer diver Juan Heredia of the Angels Recovery Dive Team made two earlier attempts but was hampered by treacherous currents and an ankle injury
• Sequoia and Kings Canyon Superintendent Clay Jordan expressed hope the discovery brings closure and officials issued warnings about ongoing river hazards
