Search Intensifies for Missing 77-Year-Old After Car Found Near River Ribble

Police issue an urgent appeal for sightings, citing an ongoing multi-agency search in the River Ribble area.

  • George Norwell was last seen at about 9:30am on Saturday, October 4, in the Swift Close area of Whittle-le-Woods.
  • Officers believe he drove a blue Ford Focus to Preston’s Boulevard area around 10:30am, and the car was later found near the River Ribble without him.
  • Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and HM Coastguard are assisting, with a helicopter and rescue teams from Lytham St Annes and Southport conducting searches.
  • Police describe him as 5ft 9in, slim, with white hair, last seen in a maroon tartan padded jacket, a maroon t-shirt, dark trousers, and carrying a cream shoulder bag with dark brown buckles.
  • The public are asked to call 999 immediately with any sightings, or 101 with information quoting log 1280 of October 4, 2025, as officers keep an open mind and update his family.
