Search Initiated for Remains of British Army Captain Abducted by IRA in 1977

Independent Commission begins excavation in County Louth based on new credible information

Captain Robert Nairac was kidnapped and murdered by the IRA while undercover in South Armagh.
The search is the first since Nairac's disappearance and is based on new leads provided by a former IRA prisoner.
The targeted area is less than an acre in size and is of significant archaeological interest.
The Nairac family has been informed and will be kept updated on the search's progress.
Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains continues to appeal for information on other Disappeared cases.
