Search for Missing Santa Rosa Hiker Paused at Bodega Head as Case Shifts to Police

Santa Rosa police now lead the case, seeking public tips.

Overview

  • The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office halted active search operations Sunday after a multi-day effort by air, land, and sea that included Coast Guard aircraft and vessels, SAR canines, ground teams, Marine Unit boats, drones, and the Henry-1 helicopter.
  • Investigators say operations will resume when new leads emerge, and the investigation has been returned to the Santa Rosa Police Department.
  • Sunshine Borjas, 47, left her Santa Rosa home around 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 to hike alone at Bodega Head; her white Subaru was found in the trailhead parking lot early Oct. 2.
  • A relative said Borjas’ phone last pinged around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 near the trail and has not pinged since, a detail authorities have not independently confirmed.
  • Officials urge anyone with information to call Santa Rosa Police at 707-528-5222 and ask residents near Bodega Head to review security camera footage from Oct. 1.
