Overview
- Defence Secretary John Healey said the missing Royal Fleet Auxiliary sailor was not found and confirmed the operation has ended, with next of kin informed.
- The individual from RFA Tidesurge was last seen at about 10:30pm on Friday, and a distress alert reached the Malin Head Coast Guard shortly before 9am Saturday.
- The search was coordinated by the Irish Coast Guard and spanned waters off Donegal and Mayo between Tory Island and Eagle Island.
- Aerial assets included Coast Guard fixed-wing Rescue 120F, helicopter Rescue 118, and an Irish Air Corps CASA 284, with three RNLI all-weather lifeboats assisting at sea.
- Irish Naval Service and UK vessels, including LÉ George Bernard Shaw and HMS Somerset, supported the effort, and the MoD said no other individuals were harmed as an investigation begins.
