• Tyler Lee Barnett, 28, was reported missing from a Carnival cruise ship on Monday, just one day after the ship embarked on a weeklong journey from New Orleans.
• The US Coast Guard suspended its search for Barnett on Thursday after scouring more than 5,600 square miles of the Gulf of Mexico without success.
• Surveillance footage showed Barnett climbing onto a lifeboat and then jumping off the side of the ship, according to Carnival representatives.
• Barnett's family insists that he slipped accidentally, and did not jump intentionally.
• The search was conducted under severe weather conditions, including up to 12-foot waves, limited visibility and gale force winds.
