Search for Missing Bodega Head Hiker Suspended as Case Returns to Santa Rosa Police

Officials paused operations after a multi-agency search produced no leads.

Overview

  • The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said active searching ended Sunday while teams await new information on where to look next.
  • On Monday, authorities returned the investigation to the Santa Rosa Police Department for follow-up.
  • Sunshine Borjas, 47, left Santa Rosa on Oct. 1 to hike at Bodega Head, and her white Subaru was found at the trailhead the next morning with no trace of her.
  • Search efforts over the weekend deployed county Search and Rescue, Henry-1, U.S. Coast Guard aircraft and boats, Marine Unit vessels, drones, canines and ground teams.
  • Relatives reported her phone last pinged around 6:30 p.m. on the trail, and authorities ask the public to share tips, check Oct. 1 surveillance near Bodega Head and note her description: 5'5", about 155 pounds, blonde hair and blue eyes, last seen in a gray shirt, gray leggings and black sneakers.
