Search Finds Wreckage of Light Plane in NSW’s Budawang National Park

Police have taken charge of a remote crash site still unreachable by vehicle or helicopter.

Overview

  • An NSW Ambulance helicopter located the downed aircraft just before 5pm after a multi-agency search involving AMSA and state emergency services.
  • NSW Police now lead the operation, with crews attempting to reach the site on foot due to rugged terrain and poor weather.
  • Authorities have not yet confirmed the condition of the pilot.
  • The aircraft departed Bankstown at 11am, flew south into Victoria, and disappeared from radar about 2:50pm after it turned north toward Sydney, with a 3:30pm scheduled return.
  • Nine News reported the flight was a Bankstown Flying School training exercise, and separate reports said a distress signal was sent over the park.
