Overview

  • The bright-green two-seat Bristell S-LSA carrying pilot Gregory Vaughan, 72, passenger Kim Worner, 66, and their dog Molly vanished after departing George Town Airport at 12:45pm Saturday.
  • Authorities raised the alarm shortly after 5pm when the aircraft failed to make scheduled radio reports and did not arrive at its planned stops in Leongatha and Hillston.
  • Coordination of the multi-agency search was transferred from AMSA to Tasmania Police, which is directing helicopter and fixed-wing patrols between George Town and Turners Beach.
  • Marine operations have been suspended because of rough seas and low visibility, restricting search efforts to aerial assets.
  • Tasmania Police continue to urge residents and mariners to report any debris or aircraft sightings and, if safe, render assistance.
